Traversing borders...

over many years, Miss Elephant has tried to reconcile the differing philosophies and ideologies as well as the realms of experience brought about by her Chinese family and western educational background.  

Born to a family of Chinese scholars, Miss Elephant was taught at home Chinese classics, poetry and arts, while receiving formal western education at schools.  Miss Elephant attended the Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of California in Santa Cruz, International Center of Photography in New York, Scuola Dante Alighieri in Camerino, Italy and the RMIT University in Melbourne, etc., where she studied Anthropology, Fine Art, Geography and Italian Studies.  She is currently a PhD candidate in Fine Art (studio practice) researching and experimenting on re-contextualising Chinese calligraphy in contemporary lives through her ongoing mixed-media participatory art project, “What Has Nature Said?”.

Miss Elephant grew up in Hong Kong, lived and travelled in many regions throughout the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe.  Although largely based in cities, she has always been attracted to the wilderness. Trekking, camping, kayaking and wandering in the Himalayas, the deserts in the North American West, the snowy mountains of the Rockies, the rolling hills and lochs in England and Scotland, the Mongolian steppes, as well as along the Mediterranean and Pacific coasts, make up a fundamental part of who she is.

Since 2000, Miss Elephant has been exhibiting her works of Chinese calligraphy and seals, photography, mixed-media installations, ephemeral and participatory art projects in different cities. These include the International House in London, Ox Warehouse in Macau, Yun Lin Exhibition Centre in Taiwan, as well as Cattle Depot, City Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Elephant House and 10 Chancery Lane Gallery in Hong Kong, etc.  

Apart from pursuing her own creative work, Miss Elephant also founded a not-for-profit organisation - Artists Co-op -  to support artists and people with creative passion to make art in Hong Kong.
